Department of Nuclear Medicine

Our department of Nuclear Medicine in Kanazawa University was established in 1973 for the first time in Japan. Nuclear medicine procedures have been used to study a variety of clinical problems in the diagnosis and management of patients. Pharmaceuticals labeled with radioisotopes are intravenously or orally administered to patients, and images of tracer's distribution can be obtained by a special camera that is called "scintillation camera". The radioisotope has been also used for internal irradiation therapy to treat patients with cancer.
