KANAZAWA UNIVERSITY, NUCLEAR MEDICINE
- Department of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Biotracer Medicine, Kanazawa University
- Our Department of Nuclear Medicine in Kanazawa University was established in 1973 for the first time in Japan. Nuclear medicine procedures have been used to study a variety of clinical problems in the diagnosis and management of patients. Pharmaceuticals labeled with radioisotopes are intravenously or orally administered to patients, and images of tracer's distribution can be obtained by a special camera that is called "scintillation camera" or tomography using SPECT.
- Positron Emission Tomography has become available for detection and management of cancer, myocardial viability study and brain study.
- The radioisotope has been also used for internal irradiation therapy to treat patients with hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. I-131 MIBG therapy is also an option for pheochromocytoma and neuroblastoma.
